New Cargill innovation center in Thailand seeks to improve aquaculture practices in region
The Technology Application Center will serve as South Asia hub for aquaculture nutrition and will be an important part of global shrimp-specific aquaculture nutrition
Bangkok, Thailand, 11th July 2018 – Cargill is opening its most advanced aquaculture innovation center in South Asia in Thailand to work with farmers in raising farming and feeding standards in aquaculture for the domestic market and in South Asia. The new Technology Application Center (TAC) brings global aquaculture best practices and expertise from a network of innovation centers and TACs worldwide. The center in Thailand will serve as the hub for Cargill’s other aquaculture innovation centers in South Asia and as an integrated part of the global innovation network for shrimp aquaculture within Cargill. It will employ about 10 scientists and farm technicians by the end of 2018.
“Aquaculture in Asia continues to grow at a rapid pace to meet increasing global demand for fish, shrimp and other seafood,” said Chad Gauger, managing director of Cargill Aqua Nutrition in South Asia. “As Cargill continues to grow our aquaculture nutrition business in the region, we are committed to do so in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. Our Technology Application Centers are innovation centers that match global leading technology R&D, local application expertise and farmer training to help advance the aquaculture industry in a more sustainable, efficient and profitable way.”
The new center in Thailand follows TAC openings in India in February and in Vietnam in April as Cargill strengthens its innovation capabilities in aquaculture in the South Asia region. Another center is set to open in Indonesia later in July 2018, which will establish the Cargill aquaculture nutrition TAC footprint across Asia, in six locations (Thailand, India, Vietnam (2), Indonesia, and China).
“Thailand was a natural choice for us to set up our Technology Application Center hub in South Asia,” said Gauger. “The country is the regional hub from shrimp in the region and has a strong talent pool in aquaculture nutrition. In fact, Thailand already serves as our South Asia headquarters for the aquaculture nutrition business. We also have a strong presence in Thailand and are fully committed to continue investing in the country and its people.”
The new center in Thailand brings our total number of animal nutrition innovation centers to 25 worldwide, with twelve dedicated to aquaculture nutrition. New centers across more countries and sites are being planned.
